Does aeration clear pond water?
Indirectly. Higher dissolved oxygen supports the beneficial bacteria that break down waste, which reduces the nutrients that feed algae and the muck on the bottom. It does not remove suspended algae, which is what a UV clarifier does, and it does not remove particles, which is what a filter does.
Can you aerate a pond too much?
In a large stratified pond, turning the whole water column over at once can bring deoxygenated bottom water to the surface and stress or kill fish. The usual advice is to run it for short periods at first and build up. In a small pond, excessive aeration mostly wastes electricity and disturbs fish.
Aerator or de-icer for winter?
